BUYING MY FIRST HOLSTER
Carrying a pistol everyday is not always comfortable. A quality holster helps with that, but first there are some things to consider.
Do you want an IWB (inside waistband) or OWB (outside waistband)?
Keep in mind IWB has the sub category of AIWB (appendix inside waistband) which means it is carried over your appendix (instead of the hip). Some IWB holsters can serve as an IWB and AIWB, but an AIWB holster is specifically designed to be worn appendix style.
If you opt for an OWB holster you will want to decide if you want a locking system (retention) like the Safariland ALS system or a passive retention holster like one made out of Kydex.
Avoid buying the SERPA holster or any holster that has a locking system that requires you to use your index finger to unlock the gun. They're not well designed and SERPA is notorious for causing accidental discharges.
DON'T buy a cheap fabric holster OWB or IWB holster from a big box store, they are unsafe and they wont hold your pistol securely. Invest the $90-$130 into something you’ll have for years to come.
Brands like Safariland, Tier 1 Concealed and Raven Concealment have awesome track records, and there are a ton of fantastic holsters on the market as of 2024.
